FLEXIBLE KITS FOR RETAINING SHALLOW LANDSLIDES/OPEN HILL DEBRIS FLOWS

DEBRIS FLOWS KITS
Barriers able to retain flow pressures up to 212 kPa

RDC shallow landslide/open hill debris flow protection barriers combine speed and easy assembly with lightweight of the whole kit, because the post sections and all the components have been optimized; furthermore, the base components, such as the energy dissipation devices, are made of aluminium (lightweight and durable material). Jobsite operation are minimized, with no need of big excavation works and short construction time.

The low weight helps handling of the kit even in hard site conditions, as rugged slope or irregular ground, but also means savings on transport costs, especially when helicopter-assisted installation is needed.

The main interception layer consists of a ring net, placed along the whole length of the downslope side of the barrier, thus forces are distributed along the barrier, reducing the stresses on the foundations.

An additional interception layer (hexagonal wire mesh) is installed on the upslope side of the ring panels, in order to retain even the small debris material which runs down together with larger blocks in shallow landslide/open hill debris flow events. The energy dissipation devices absorb the applied energy by deformation and not by friction. They guarantee high performance with high energy absorption: this allows lower forces on anchors and limited structure deformations.

Geoformica S.r.l. flexible kits for shallow landslide/open hill debris flow were full scale tested according with European Assessment Document EAD 340020-00-0106. Taking into account of test results, for each barrier was issued the European Technical Assessment (ETA) and, on the base of this, each kit obtained the Certificate of Constancy of Performance of construction products in accordance with the Regulation (UE) n. 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council.
